Satchel Paige in the Negro League
Satchel Paige was one of the greatest pitchers ever, especially in the Negro Leagues. His career kicked off with the Chattanooga Black Lookouts in 1926. He then spent time with Birmingham and Nashville, and then the Pittsburgh Crawfords in 1932. He was known as the Negro League's best pitcher. In 1939 he played for the Kansas City Monarchs, and during his time with them he helped them win four straight Negro American League Pennants, and the Negro World Series in 1942. Satchel Paige brought in so many fans that teams that desperately needed fans would borrow him for a few games to up the attendance. If a team advertised that Satch would be pitching for them for a game, then crowds would rush in to watch. He single-handedly made playing baseball for blacks a possibilty.
